Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc. (PME), an internationally known freshwater instrument design corporation is proud to announce the release of their miniDOT, a small logger that records dissolved oxygen and temperature measurements internally for months at a time.

CEO Michael Head states, “We are very excited about the miniDOT logger because it allows users to take measurements frequently while maintaining months of service before the batteries need to be replaced.”

The miniDOT contains a dissolved oxygen sensor, which is an optode that measures lifetime-based luminescence quenching of fluorescence of a thin membrane, and a thermistor to measure temperature. Data are recorded on a 2GB internal SanDisk memory card. If the sample frequency is every 1 minute, the logger will last for 200 days. If the sample frequency is every ten minutes, the logger will last for 475 days. The miniDOT oxygen logger can be programmed to make measurements at 1 minute intervals to 1 hour intervals.

This oxygen logger collects measurements of dissolved oxygen with an accuracy of +/- 5% and temperature to +/- 0.1 degrees C. The miniDOT oxygen logger is self contained and able to function within a variety of liquid environments. Data are stored on an internal SD card and are offloaded to a computer via a USB card reader.

Each miniDOT logger is extremely portable and easy to handle. PME will provide data visualization software with each miniDOT. This is a Java program that displays miniDOT logger data files and computes oxygen saturation. It calculates air pressure based on elevation of the water surface above sea level.

The miniDOT logger can be used in a variety of monitoring applications. The fluorescence technology allows this logger to effectively and accurately collect dissolved oxygen measurements in many different liquid sources. Applications include lakes, rivers, estuaries, oceans, water treatment outfalls, water column profiling, aquaculture and waste water.

Vista, CA –May 11, 2011– Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc. (PME), an internationally known freshwater instrument design corporation recently provided Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR) Institution with instrumentation that will constantly monitor water temperature and dissolved oxygen. Data will be available real-time and telemetered via GSM cell phone to a shore computer.

PME provided IOLR with a sensor string, called the T-Chain, that contains temperature and dissolved oxygen sensors, a data logger for telemetry, solar panel, GSM cell phone, data flow management and visualization software. This instrumentation is connected to a stationary buoy located on Lake Kinneret, the largest freshwater lake in Israel.

Dr. Werner Eckert, senior scientist with IOLR states, “We are pleased with the system because it allows us to monitor thermal stratification, internal waves and dissolved oxygen concentration real-time.”

The instrumentation provided by PME are allowing researchers at IOLR to monitor various lake dynamics. The T-Chain is deployed in the sublittoral zone of Lake Kinneret in order to monitor wind-induced internal waves. These so-called seiches in the sublittoral can reach amplitudes that exceed 10 meters. Lake data are important for understanding lake ecology and actions for sustainability.

Vista, CA – April 20, 2011- Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc. (PME), an internationally known oceanographic and limnologic instrument design corporation has designed and developed a new conductivity sensor to be used with their T-Chain sensing string, a water column monitoring device manufactured by PME.

The conductivity sensor measures conductivity using an inductive sensor technique. AC voltage is applied to a transformer core, which includes current flow in the surrounding water. This current is detected by a second transformer core. The conductivity sensor was designed for use in hypersaline lakes and estuary research applications where high accuracy conductivity isn’t required.

T-Chains are currently being used to monitor lake and reservoir thermocline and stratification, detect dissolved oxygen fluctuations, observe internal waves, collect data under ice, discover plumes, observe upwelling and eddies, record lake turnover and more. T-Chains can telemeter real-time data via GSM cell phone.

23-FEB-2011, Vista, California – Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc (PME), an internationally known oceanographic and limnologic instrument design corporation, has integrated the Turner Designs Cyclops-7 Chlorophyll sensor to their T-Chain, a multi-sensor string.

The T-Chain is a temperature string designed to collect a variety of water column measurements such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, PAR and pressure. The T-Chain is used as a water quality monitoring and management device for collecting frequent samples and storing them to a data logger. Some data loggers can telemeter the data for real-time analysis.

Future additional T-Chain Cyclops-7 sensors can include blue green algae, rhodamine WT Dye, fluorescein dye and turbidity. The sensors are manufactured by Turner Designs, a company that provides sensitive, reliable and easy-to-use fluorometers for environmental and industrial use. These sensors can be removed from the T-Chain for easy cleaning and maintenance.
